2014 Speedway Grand Prix Calendar
The FIM Speedway Grand Prix (SGP) is the world's premier individual speedway championship, featuring elite riders competing on 500cc purpose-built motorcycles that possess a single fixed gear and, most famously, no brakes. Racing on oval dirt tracks, sixteen riders compete in a high-intensity series of "heats"; short, four-lap sprints lasting about 60 seconds where bikes are flicked sideways into corners at high speeds to maintain momentum. Starting in 2025, the series introduced a modernized format including a "Last Chance Qualifier" (LCQ) system and head-to-head knockout qualifying to determine starting positions. With a season spanning multiple international rounds, the championship demands a unique combination of explosive acceleration, tactical daring, and precise throttle control, culminating in the crowning of the individual Speedway World Champion.
