"Real" Road Racing is a visceral and high-stakes form of motorcycle racing conducted on closed public roads rather than purpose-built circuits, primarily concentrated in Northern Ireland and the Isle of Man. Dominated by the world-famous Isle of Man TT, the sport sees riders reach speeds exceeding 200 mph while navigating narrow country lanes lined with "street furniture" (stone walls, lamp posts, and hedges) that offer zero margin for error. Unlike the time-trial format of the TT, race like the NW 200 feature mass starts that create intense, handlebar-to-handlebar action through villages and over jumps. Defined by legendary families like the Dunlops and a unique, accessible paddock culture, road racing remains one of the most dangerous yet awe-inspiring spectacles in motorsport, where pure bravery and encyclopedic course knowledge are the keys to immortality.
